About the Author

Welcome to my travel blog,  Love Travelling.   I’m Marion,  a mother of two young adults from northern England,  a teacher and aspiring travel blogger working part time and spending the rest of the week dreaming of foreign lands and planning the next adventure.  I’m an independent traveller,  researching destinations myself without the need for a tour guide or packaged trip.  That’s  part of the fun – visiting the local library and selecting some travel guides,  looking things up on-line and, of course, all the amazing tips I discover from fellow travel bloggers.

The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page. Augustine of Hippo

My passion is travel,  I just love visiting new places, immersing myself into local cultures of life across the globe and discovering the unexpected!  Stepping off a plane,  I’m always in a hurry to get my passport stamped, reclaim my luggage and walk out of the arrivals hall ready to begin a new adventure.

Cadiz, Spain

I love the planning, the anticipation, the journey, be it by plane, train, bus or boat and of course, the actual holiday and finally all the wonderful memories and experiences I bring home that live with me forever.  That’s the real reason I created this blog so that I could have an online diary of my recent trips to look back on in the future.  I’ve been surprised but thrilled that so many of you have taken an interest in my travels and enjoy reading about my trips – it’s very encouraging and makes me very happy!

I didn’t set foot on foreign soil until the age of 13, on a school holiday to the Black Forest in Germany, travelling by coach and ferry.   I adored everything about that first trip, from the little things like driving off the ferry on the wrong side of the road, the strange money and the language,  and I knew from that day on, that I wanted to explore as many different countries as time and money would allow and to experience local cultures first hand.   I’ve been fortunate in being able to fulfil my dream and to share my love of travel with my family but, naturally, there are so many destinations still out there waiting to be explored.

The countries I’ve been fortunate to visit to date are:

Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Guernsey, Hong Kong, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Macau, Malaysia, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States, Vatican City.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by bowlines, sail away from the safe harbour.

Catch the trade winds in your sails.

Hopefully,  drawing on my personal experiences,  I may be able to pass on some useful insights and travel tips to help you get the most out of  your  holidays  and perhaps inspire some of you to visit destinations that you might not previously have thought of.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.  I’m already looking forward to sharing my travel stories and photos with you.  Do come along and join my adventures!

  1. Hi🙂 I really like the format of your site and am trying to work out how to do the same myself. Your site is how I intended mine to be when I first got it!

Are you able to say how you have got the different header?: Home, Contact, Asia, Europe etc, and crucially the drop down menus that then appear and allow you to sort your blog posts into the different sections – rather than them just all appearing on the front page. Hope that makes sense!

Look forward to reading your blog.

    1. Hello and thank you for taking the time to look through my blog. I think you need to take a look at the WordPress support section on creating menus. To create drop down menus like mine you need to create ‘parent’ and ‘child’ from your main menu, for example I have Europe (main menu), connected to Spain (parent) and then Madrid (child). Have a read through the menu tutorials and hopefully you’ll manage to work it out but it does take time. Kind Regards.

  2. I admire you courage to explore new destinations. I’m hoping to do more travel in the future.

Thanks for taking time to read my blog and liking my post on Saving Our Ukrainian History. Ukraine is a beautiful country. It can be challenging to navigate, but well worth the trouble.

I too have visited 32 countries and later this month I am, along with my wife & daughter, going for a cruise touching Athens, Santorini, Kotor (Montengro), Messina (Sicily), Naples and end in Barcelona. I do plan on writing about this and hopefully will be reasonably adept at knowing a lil bit more about blogging.
