Day 9. Stanley, The Star Ferry and Returning to Hong Kong Airport

After breakfast it was time to pack.  Even though we had bought several bags of clothes, a remote controlled helicopter and various other bits and pieces, it wasn’t too difficult as Emirates provide a generous 30kg baggage allowance and we had plenty of room in our suitcases.

We checked out of the Ibis Hotel, North Point mid morning.  It had been a perfect place to spend a week, a well equipped, modern room, with panoramic sea views, plus close to the North Point MRT station.  We took our luggage by train to Central and bought two tickets for the Airport Express HK$160 if bought in multiples of two.

Purchasing these tickets enabled us to take advantage of the City Check In at the Emirates desk (no queue) and this also meant that we were free from our luggage for the entire day as this would now travel to the airport ahead of us.  Our flight was not scheduled to depart until 22.10.

We walked across to the Exchange bus station and caught a bus to Stanley again, as we had enjoyed it so much earlier in the week.  After enjoying a very pleasant walk along the picturesque sea front we enjoyed a long, leisurely lunch in the afternoon sunshine.

We have been so lucky with the weather, not one single drop of rain in 8 days, our umbrellas remaining in our bags the whole time.  After taking a few final photographs we returned to Central by bus, passing the beautiful Repulse Bay on the way.  Fittingly, our final holiday activity had to be a last ride on the iconic Star Ferry across Victoria Harbour soaking up the spectacular views along the way.  Our next task was to return our Octopus Cards to the MRT kiosk and obtain refunds from our unused credit.  The cards had been really useful, we had topped them up numerous times, but also used them to pay for snacks in McDonalds and 7 Eleven stores.  Finally, it was time to board the Airport Express train back to the Chek Lap Kok airport for our return flight to the UK.

We had avoided checking in queues as we had used city check in this morning so we were able to proceed directly to security.  Our Emirates flight departed on time at 22.20 flying to Dubia with a short stop in Bangkok where we could remain in our seats.
