As our flight was not scheduled to depart until 12 noon we had ample time for a leisurely breakfast in the hotel’s restaurant before checking out and walking to the small bus station.
The journey took just 20 minutes and the terminal building was considerably busier than when we arrived on Friday morning. As the Canary Islands are outside the EU Customs Union we were able to buy some gin to take back home with us. There was then enough time to have a cappuccino before boarding our return flight to the UK.
The main purpose of the weekend break was to escape the British winter for a few days and soak up some of the sun’s rays. It was certainly much warmer than at home in northern England but with the exception of one morning there was always a stiff breeze.
The landscape can at best be described as totally barren and the only plants, flowers and lawns had been planted within the grounds of the large hotel resorts. Personally, I did not like this ‘lunar’ type landscape whatsoever, Fuerteventura was pleasant for a weekend, but I would not wish to stay longer . The Barcelo resort was very large and we found it to be quite pleasant for our off season break but I feel that it would be too busy for us during the high season.
