About the Author

Welcome to my travel blog, Love Travelling.  I’m Marion, an independent traveller blogging about visits to countries near and far.

I  research destinations myself without the need for a tour guide or packaged trip.  That’s part of the fun – visiting the local library and selecting some travel guides, looking things up online and, of course, all the amazing tips I discover from fellow travel bloggers.

The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page. Augustine of Hippo

My passion is travel, I just love visiting new places, immersing myself into local cultures of life around the world and discovering the unexpected!  Stepping off a plane, I’m always in a hurry to get my passport stamped, reclaim my luggage and walk out of the arrivals hall ready to begin a new adventure.

I love the planning, the anticipation, the journey, be it by plane, train, bus or boat and of course, the actual holiday and finally all the wonderful memories and experiences I bring home that live with me forever.  That was the original reason why I created this blog so that I could have an online diary of my recent trips to look back on in the future.  I’ve been surprised but thrilled that so many of you have taken an interest in my travels and enjoy reading about my trips – it’s very encouraging and makes me very happy!  From starting as a hobby my blog has evolved into an award winning online travel resource providing inspiration to fellow travellers.

I didn’t set foot on foreign soil until the age of 13, on a school holiday to the Black Forest in Germany, travelling by coach and ferry.  I adored everything about that first trip, from the little things like driving off the ferry on the other side of the road, the strange money and the language, and I knew from that day on, that I wanted to explore as many different countries as time and money would allow and to experience local cultures first hand.  I’ve been fortunate in being able to fulfil my dream and to share my love of travel with my family but, naturally, there are so many destinations still out there waiting to be explored.

The countries I’ve been fortunate to visit to date are:

Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Guernsey, Hong Kong, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Jamaica, Latvia, Luxembourg, Macau, Malaysia, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States, Vatican City.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by bowlines, sail away from the safe harbour.

Catch the trade winds in your sails.

As well as overseas travel, I’m also a firm supporter and champion of the British Isles.  From dynamic cities to rural towns and villages and from seaside resorts to national parks there is so much to enjoy and be proud of.  Within this section of my blog I explore U.K. city breaks and days out at places of interest.

Hopefully, drawing on my personal experiences, I may be able to pass on some useful insights and travel tips to help you get the most out of your holidays and perhaps inspire some of you to visit destinations that you might not previously have thought of.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.  I’m already looking forward to sharing my travel stories and photos with you.  Do come along and join my adventures!

  4. You sum it up so beautifully – I love the planning, the anticipation of getting to know anew place, the journey – everything is so precious. My husband thinks i am crazy to plan trips that i may not land up taking – but to me, it’s like buying a lottery ticket – If you don’t buy it – you are surely not winning 🙂 If you – there are chances you could win.

  5. I have traveled the earth and it is always a blessing. My favorite place to visit is Japan, just because of the history and spiritual energy. The shrines and temples are amazing specially the ones that are not big tourist destinations. But I still would love to travel more and more as the world truly has so many beautiful places, people and cultures. Another place I really love traveling to was Malta, Phoenix Arizona and Cinque Terra Italy. Looking forward to seeing where you go next!

  6. I do love the thought of going without planning. It’s a surefire way for us to leave many doubts and apprehensions behind. Thinking about just going with the flow sans many of the basic travel requirements like accommodation. Visiting a library sounds nice on the road. Kinda made me smile. Thanks for sharing!

  7. I loved reading about you. I sensel a kindred spirit! I, too, LOVE to travel and am finding a way to do it via painting workshops. Can’t beat it. I’m combining my two loves: watercolor/art, and travel. LOVE the cultures. I haven’t traveled nearly as much as you, but plan on seeing much more in the upcoming years. I’m an empty-nester as of this fall and am beginning STEP 2 of my life. Maybe we can compare notes and meet up sometime!

    1. Thank you for your kind words. I do hope that you have an opportunity to travel to many places. I don’t think you need to pursue a particular career, you just need to save and not spend so much money on leisure activities whilst at home.

  12. You have travelled to every place I have dreamed of thus far! And I also wanted to thank you for reading my blog “Carry On” I do hope that you visit blogosphere again and I will be back again to see where you have journeyed off too.
